What is Taijiquan?

Long ago, Tai Chi (Taijiquan) was a system of battlefield fighting. Today, Tai Chi is a perfect exercise because it conditions the body, grows the spirit, and strengthens the mind. It is also a means of personal expression for millions of people around the world, an exotic paintbrush that can produce works of art as deep, rich, surprising, and rewarding as the people who wield it. Yet Tai Chi is more than an art form, a physical exercise, and a wondrous lens through which to see the world; it is a philosophy that can be lived, a lifestyle through which we can realize high ideals, and a complete recipe for health longevity, happiness, and power. - "Tai Chi The Perfect Exercise" by Monk Yun Rou.

The Tao

The Tao that can be discussed is not really the Tao.
Things in the world are only temporary reflections of Tao.
The flow of Tao is all that really exists.
Our language and beliefs and categories
Are only fabrications wich help us make sense of its flow.

In order to understand this, one has to first learn how to relax,
In order to experience this, one has to first learn how to unlearn.
The world is made of and by Tao,
And Tao is evidenced by the workings of the world.

Tao and the world may seem separate
But that is only because we are hardwired to see it that way.

The Teacher

In 2011, I embarked on my formal training in Chen Taiji under the guidance of my Sifu, Monk Yun Rou. As my journey unfolded, I continued to deepen my skills through the mentorship of Sibak Todd Plager and Sigung Max Gaofei Yan. 

Taijiquan has truly been a transformative force in my life, although it didn't captivate me instantly. Unlike other physical exercises that offer immediate gratification, such as jogging or lively Zumba classes, Taijiquan requires dedication and perseverance. It demands mental and physical effort. However, if you wholeheartedly commit to this lifestyle, Taiji will work its magic, unveiling a remarkable transformation within you. It will bestow upon your health, happiness, balance, and strength, enabling you to become the best version of yourself. Moreover, the wisdom of Taoist philosophy will enrich your existence, infusing your life with compassion and kindness. 

Once the flame of passion for Taijiquan is ignited within you, the rewards are boundless. All the hard work invested will evolve into pure enjoyment, and you'll find yourself yearning for the practice every day. 

Now, I believe it is my calling to share the knowledge I have acquired and contribute to the preservation and perpetuation of this beautiful art. It is my sincere desire to pass on what I have learned, guiding others on their own transformative journey through the profound practice of Taijiquan.

The Classes

Learn Taijiquan

I provide private instruction in south Florida's beautiful area of Boca Raton, and its neighboring cities (Deerfield Beach, Delray Beach, Pompano, Ft Lauderdale, Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Lakeworth, Boyton Beach and others). To schedule your first class or to request more information, please click here to email me. As a private instructor, I offer the flexibility of conducting classes outdoors at local parks. Alternatively, if we happen to have the same gym membership, we can also arrange to meet at the gym's studio when it's available, you can take a class as often as you like and share your class with one friend.
